Tiles in Poole, Dorset

The story of tile manufacture in Poole begins in 1855 when the Patent Architectural Pottery was established in Hamworthy.  The Carter family’s involvement began when Jesse Carter, a business man from Weybridge, bought a struggling works on the East Quay from James Walker.  The Carter and Co  business developed to become the major manufacturer on the South coast and their products can still be seen on many local historic buildings.
